In this tech age we are Always “on”. Emails. WhatsApps. Traffic. Deadlines. Notifications. Even when you’re sitting still, your brain can feel like it’s running a marathon.
The good news? You don’t need a wellness retreat or an hour of meditation. A few small, everyday resets can help you switch off, recharge and feel more like yourself.
☀️ 1. Get outside for 10 minutes
Take a short walk, step outside with your coffee or simply leave your desk for a few minutes (leave your phone behind!). Natural light, fresh air and a change of scenery are a great combination for breaking up a stressful day.
No gym. No equipment. No excuses. Just go outside.
🌞 2. Get some morning sunlight
Your body clock loves morning light. Getting outside early helps reinforce your natural sleep-wake rhythm and can set you up for better sleep later.
So before you dive into your emails, get some daylight in your eyes. Coffee tastes pretty good outside too.
📱 3. Give your phone a break
We're connected almost 24/7 — and our brains rarely get a chance to switch off. Try starting or ending your day with 20 minutes without your phone.
When I wake in the morning, I resist the urge to grab my phone immediately. First, I say a few words of gratification for waking up and having a roof over my head, food, and well, life. Then I take 4 slow, deep breaths, 4 seconds in, hold for 4, and out for 4. (see below)
Your brain will thank you.
😮💨 4. Make your exhale longer
Feeling wound up? Try slowing your breathing down and making your exhale slightly longer than your inhale.
You don't need a meditation app or a yoga mat. Two quiet minutes of slow breathing can be enough to create a useful pause in a busy day.
☕ 5. Rethink your afternoon coffee
That 4pm coffee might be getting you through the afternoon — but caffeine can stick around in your system for much longer than you think.
If sleep isn't great, try moving your last coffee earlier and see what happens.
Better sleep beats another cup.
🥜 6. Give your breakfast some staying power
A breakfast containing protein + fibre + healthy fats can help keep you satisfied and support steadier energy through the morning.
Think yoghurt + nuts and seeds, eggs + wholegrain toast, or oats topped with nuts.
Your morning snack attack might just need a better breakfast.
😴 7. Give your body a bedtime routine
Your body likes consistency. Going to bed and waking up at roughly the same time each day can help keep your sleep rhythm on track.
And try giving yourself a little wind-down time before bed — less screen, less stimulation, more sleep.
You don't need to overhaul your life to feel better.
Pick just ONE of these habits and try it this week - be consistent, every day! Ten minutes outside. An earlier last coffee. A phone-free morning start. A better breakfast.
Small habits aren't particularly exciting — until you realise they're working.
🥜 And if your afternoon is calling for a snack...
Make it a good one.
Nuts, seeds, dried fruit and other minimally processed snacks can be an easy way to keep something nutritious within reach — at your desk, in the car or wherever your day takes you.
